A real choice before optional loading

QubitWire applies the same optional-technology controls globally. Necessary delivery and security remain active. Analytics and reading history each have a separate choice and remain off until you select them. YouTube videos, Google Maps and TradingView content display automatically without an enable toggle. “Reject optional” and “Accept optional” are available together; “Customize choices” lets you choose individually. In the controls, “Save selected” applies only the selected features. Closing without saving leaves the current choice unchanged.

Your privacy choices reopens these choices. Saving a withdrawal stops the affected analytics or reading-history feature without hiding public content or automatically reloading the page. If Analytics code was already loaded, the controls offer a manual reload to unload that code after you finish or copy any message draft. A withdrawal does not undo earlier processing or delete records held by providers.

Technology register

This register describes the application’s controls and named storage. It is not a complete inventory of every provider’s cookies, logging or retention. Provider behavior can vary with your browser and settings.

Embedded content Displayed automatically

YouTube thumbnails and players, Vimeo players, Google Maps and TradingView charts load when their content is displayed. No enable toggle is required. Providers receive connection information; their storage and retention vary. Analytics and advertising measurement remain separately controlled.

Separate from items you explicitly save.qw:reader-state:v1, qw:return-visit:v1 and qw:return-session:v1: local/session records for return activity. History remains until reset, cleared or evicted; turning it off stops further automatic recording.

Requested saves and voting Requested feature

Local saved-item lists, comparisons and display settings are separate from automatic reading history. The first-party qw_video_voter cookie is created when you vote, not when you view totals.Saves remain until removed, cleared or evicted. The voting identifier lasts up to one year. Refusing optional features does not erase either.

qubitwire.google-ads-measurement.v1 records a separate Google Ads measurement choice, version, time and permission epoch for up to 180 days. qw_google_ads_refused preserves refusal when possible if storage fails. Existing Analytics consent and “Accept optional” cannot grant this new choice. With Analytics and this separate permission enabled, qubitwire.google-ads-attribution.v1 recognizes only validated gclid, gbraid and wbraid click identifiers in session storage for at most 30 days or the tab session. Expired records may remain physically present until withdrawal, browser cleanup or the tab session ends; they are no longer used for measurement. Google can read or write advertising cookies such as _gcl_*. Withdrawal clears that session record and attempts to delete first-party _gcl_ cookies; a saved withdrawal in the separate control reloads the page to unload provider code. Existing provider records and cookies on Google’s domains are outside this site’s deletion control. Reddit tracking remains disabled.

Necessary and requested features

Page delivery and photographs

Website files and some licensed People photographs hosted by Wikimedia load to display the requested page. Their servers receive connection information. Optional tracking choices do not prevent ordinary page, video, map and image delivery; see the Privacy notice and the recorded image credits.

Security and sign-in

Hosting services can set security cookies, including Cloudflare’s __cf_bm, to protect requests. Sign-in uses the authentication provider’s own session mechanisms. These are distinct from optional analytics.

Privacy choices

qubitwire.privacy.v2 records each choice, a timestamp and the policy version for up to 180 days. qw_privacy_refused can preserve a refusal if local storage is unavailable. Legacy analytics choices remain separate but no longer authorize optional loading on their own.

Requested saves and settings

Saved articles, videos, events, job references, People comparisons, company follows, shortlists and display settings use first-party storage when you use those features. They remain until removed, cleared or evicted. Saved jobs stay in this browser and can be managed through Saved jobs. Signed-in company follows are also stored in your account.

Voting

qw_video_voter is a random identifier set when you submit a vote, for up to one year. The cookie is HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax and Secure on HTTPS. Viewing vote totals does not create a new voting identifier.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics is loaded only after analytics permission. _ga and related first-party cookies distinguish browsers and sessions. Our configuration requests a 180-day cookie life without renewing that life on each visit, disables Google signals and advertising personalization, and strips arbitrary query strings and fragments from custom page measurements, with only the three validated Google click identifiers added when separate Google Ads measurement permission is granted. Session storage prevents duplicate engagement events. No form contents, email addresses, vote directions or free-text search queries are included in our custom analytics events.

Global Privacy Control keeps Analytics off even if an older saved choice permitted it. Videos, maps and market widgets remain available. External links remain available; reading history stays separately selectable. Advertising storage and advertising user-data remain denied unless you explicitly save the separate Google Ads measurement choice. Advertising personalization and Google signals remain off. “Accept optional” does not grant this separate permission. With Global Privacy Control, Google Ads measurement is also suppressed and the previous grant is withdrawn without extending its expiry.

External content

Video players

YouTube thumbnails display automatically and the privacy-enhanced player loads when you open a video. No settings toggle is required and videos do not autoplay. Privacy-enhanced mode is not a promise of zero data collection. Google/YouTube receives connection information when its images or player load.

Maps

Event maps display automatically. Google receives the displayed event location and connection information. The map does not request your device location.

Market data

TradingView scripts, charts and price widgets load automatically when displayed and receive ordinary connection and widget information. Company research remains available without market data.

Providers may receive an IP address, browser/device details and their own identifiers when embedded content loads. Provider cookies and retention depend on their services and your settings. We cannot remove a cookie on a separate provider’s domain. Use the provider’s controls or your browser to manage those records. Choosing an external link opens that service under its own policies, under that provider’s own controls.

Reading history on this device

Automatic reading and return history has a separate optional preference. With permission, your browser remembers recent articles, reading position and return activity. Requested saved lists are separate. Turning history off stops further automatic storage; existing history is preserved until you reset it in Your Updates or clear browser data.

Persistence, expiry and browser limits

Choices apply to this browser and origin, not every device. Private browsing or clearing site data may prompt a new choice. Expired or unrecognized consent is not treated as permission. If a selected choice cannot be saved, optional features remain off for the current visit and the interface reports the failure. A refusal cookie is attempted as a fallback. If a browser prevents both storage updates and cookie changes, the site cannot guarantee that an older stored choice has been replaced for a later visit; remove this site’s old data in your browser settings.

Detected Global Privacy Control suppresses Analytics and advertising measurement and saves that suppression without extending the original choice’s lifetime. Removing the signal does not restore earlier tracking permissions. Public videos, maps and market widgets remain available. Reading history remains separately selectable. Changes in another tab, page restoration and expiry are rechecked without discarding an unfinished form. A page already open also rechecks the signal periodically.

Browsers may remove data sooner than the stated maximum. Older storage values can remain physically present after they stop being treated as current. Clearing browser data also removes local saves. Our controls do not erase provider records or unsubscribe you from email. See the retention disclosures and request route.
