Event preparationIEEE QAI 2026: arrive with an evaluation plan for quantum machine learningUse the Nottingham meeting to sharpen the question a quantum learning experiment must answer.Context reviewed

IEEE’s event calendar places the second International Conference on Quantum Artificial Intelligence in Nottingham on December 13–16, 2026. The conference call identifies the Jubilee Campus venue and an earlier June 30 submission deadline. That date precedes the 17 October 2026 review, and the retrieved call does not establish a currently open late-submission route. This is therefore an attendance and research-preparation brief, not an invitation to submit a paper through an expired call. Current registration, remaining availability and the final programme still require the organizer’s live confirmation.

The most useful preparation is a one-page evaluation plan for a learning problem. Define the input data, training objective, held-out test set and computational resources before looking for a quantum component. Then ask what that component changes: the representation, the optimisation procedure, a kernel, a sampling step or the physical origin of the data. These are different claims and need different comparisons. A method that improves one experiment may not improve a complete learning workflow once data preparation and repeated measurements are included.

Build a simple comparison sheet with one row for each candidate method and columns for data access, parameter tuning, training cost, test performance and uncertainty. Keep hyperparameter search within the same budget where possible. A quantum method and a classical baseline should not receive different opportunities to select a favourable result. If a presentation discusses only a proof under an oracle model, record the oracle assumption instead of translating the result directly into a wall-clock advantage for an ordinary data set. The sheet is a reader exercise, not a prediction of the conference programme.

During the meeting, the best question is often about a result’s failure regime. Ask what happens when data size, noise, circuit depth or distribution shift changes. A plot showing where a method stops helping can be more useful for a future project than a single best-performing example. Preserve links to papers and code in the notes, and distinguish a speaker’s unpublished expectation from a result that can be checked. A named conference talk is a useful discovery route; it does not replace the underlying evidence.

Questions to take with you

Can I still submit a paper?

This packet does not verify a current open submission route. The earlier June deadline is historical. Check the organizer’s current call for any explicitly announced late route before treating submission as possible.

What can a newcomer prepare without hardware?

Choose a small data set, define a held-out evaluation and document classical baselines under a fixed tuning budget. That makes later quantum claims easier to interpret without pretending that the exercise itself demonstrates quantum advantage.

Dates describe the organizer’s announced event. Check current admission, price and access conditions before registering or making travel arrangements.

Event preparationQubits Asia 2026: evaluate a production story through its operational constraintsBring a constraint and runtime worksheet to the Seoul user conference.Context reviewed

D-Wave announced Qubits Asia 2026 for October 28 in Seoul as a full-day user conference. Its dedicated event site identifies the Four Seasons Seoul. Ticket availability must be checked through the organizer; a countdown widget or an existing event page does not establish it. The organizer’s current registration flow must establish whether attendance is still possible, and local session times must be taken from the final programme.

The preparation question is how to examine an optimisation story described as operational or production use. Begin with the decision being made: a schedule, assignment, route, allocation or another bounded problem. Write down the constraints that a valid answer must satisfy and the practical cost of violating them. An objective value has little meaning when two methods return different levels of feasibility. This is particularly important when a workflow combines classical preparation, a quantum solver and classical repair or selection of candidate solutions.

Prepare a worksheet that distinguishes model construction, solver time, post-processing and the decision deadline. Ask whether the problem instance changes between runs and how quickly a new instance must be handled. A method can be useful because it supplies a good answer reliably within a fixed window even if another method eventually finds a better answer. Conversely, a favourable solver-only timing does not establish that the complete pipeline meets the operational deadline. The appropriate comparison depends on the actual user task, not on one universal leaderboard metric.

When a case study includes a customer, look for the customer’s own account of the deployment boundary. A pilot, a supported internal workflow and a routinely used service can all provide valuable evidence, but they should be named accurately. Ask which decisions still require human review, what happens when the solver fails and how the team detects a change in input data. Those details can reveal whether an apparently successful prototype has become dependable enough for repeated use. They also identify work that remains outside the quantum component.

Questions to take with you

Does production use prove quantum advantage?

No. It establishes a type of operational use if properly documented. A comparative advantage claim still needs a suitable baseline, matched constraints, complete costs and a clear success criterion.

Which runtime belongs in my notes?

Record every available boundary separately: preparation, solver execution, post-processing and total decision time. The operational question is whether the entire workflow meets the user’s deadline.

Event preparationQuantum.Tech 2027: turn a convergence agenda into an interface specificationUse the Boston programme to specify where quantum, AI and HPC actually exchange work.Context reviewed

The organizer’s current Quantum.Tech site lists May 25–26, 2027 at Encore Boston Harbor and presents the event alongside Compute.Tech. Its programme emphasizes the relationship between quantum computing, AI and high-performance computing. Some third-party or exhibitor calendars show a wider May 24–26 window; this guide uses the organizer’s main-event dates and leaves additional activities to their own confirmation. A registration link is visible, but pass availability, price and included access were not independently completed or verified.

Convergence becomes a useful technical topic when the interfaces are explicit. A hybrid workflow moves information between data preparation, classical processing, quantum execution, analysis and the application that consumes the result. Each transition has a format, timing requirement and responsibility for failure. Before the conference, choose one workflow and write those interfaces down. The goal is to identify the point at which a proposed partnership or platform actually reduces work for the user. A diagram with company logos alone cannot answer that question.

For an enterprise reader, a one-page procurement scenario is a practical preparation tool. State the workload, the decision deadline, the data boundary, the desired output and the conditions under which a pilot would stop. Then ask potential providers which parts they deliver and which remain with the customer. A service might supply access to a processor while leaving application modelling, validation or operational integration untouched. That division can still be appropriate, but it needs to be visible before the team treats a pilot as a complete solution.

The agenda’s breadth also creates a comparison problem. A scientific talk, a sponsored presentation and a product demonstration can all be informative, but they offer different kinds of evidence. Notes should retain the session context and link to the underlying technical or customer source. An announcement about a future integration belongs in a roadmap field. A demonstrated interface belongs in a capability field. A customer-reported outcome belongs in an adoption field. Keeping these distinctions helps readers follow a busy programme without allowing repeated appearances to count as repeated independent validation.

Questions to take with you

Why not use May 24–26 from an exhibitor page?

The organizer’s current main-event date is May 25–26. A tour, setup day or associated activity may have a different window, but it should receive its own label and confirmation.

What should a pilot specification contain?

The user task, input data, output, acceptance criterion, complete workflow boundary and stop condition. It should state which party owns each dependency so a demonstration is not mistaken for a complete operational service.

Event preparationOFC 2027: prepare a quantum-network link budget before visiting the exhibitionSeparate the technical and exhibition calendars, then follow loss and timing through a complete link.Context reviewed

OFC’s organizer distinguishes the March 7–11, 2027 technical conference from the March 9–11 exhibition at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The distinction matters because a conference pass, exhibition visit and short course can provide different access. The organizer describes optical-networking and communications coverage, including quantum networking among the relevant topics. This preparation brief focuses on the evidence needed to connect a laboratory quantum-link result to a usable network component.

Start by drawing a link as a chain of interfaces: source, coupling, transmission medium, switching or routing elements, detector and classical coordination. At each point, record which loss, noise or timing parameter matters for the intended protocol. Leave values blank until a source supplies them. A link budget is useful because an impressive component specification can become less impressive after all the interfaces are included. It also prevents readers from confusing a fibre distance with a complete end-to-end performance result.

A second worksheet should separate optical compatibility from protocol success. A component can operate at a useful wavelength or fit an existing fibre environment without proving that a particular quantum communication protocol works under the same conditions. If classical and quantum traffic share infrastructure, the test conditions matter: channels, launch powers, filtering, timing and environmental changes can alter the result. These are proposed questions for exhibitors and technical talks, not a claim that every OFC session will address quantum coexistence or that a particular vendor has solved it.

During the technical programme, preserve the definition of the reported output. A detection rate, an entanglement rate and a secret-key rate represent different quantities. The profile of the experiment should include what was counted, what was discarded and how uncertainty was assessed. During the exhibition, ask how a product specification was measured and which parts of a deployed link are outside the supplier’s responsibility. This gives a reader a fair way to move between research and product material without treating them as interchangeable evidence.

Which dates should I save?

Save the dates of the activity you intend to attend. The technical conference begins two days before the exhibition; a single date range can hide that distinction.

Is a longer link always a better network result?

No. Distance must be interpreted with rate, fidelity or security output, losses, resources and protocol conditions. The relevant comparison is the service the link can supply under the stated conditions.

Event preparationDAMOP 2027: use spectroscopy talks to learn how systematics are separatedPrepare to distinguish scatter, drift and systematic shifts in atomic and optical measurements.Context reviewed

The American Physical Society lists its 58th Division of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics meeting for May 31–June 4, 2027 at the Hilton Chicago. The current event page establishes the meeting identity, dates and venue. It does not yet establish the detailed programme, abstract deadline, registration price or travel-support terms during this source review. Older DAMOP pages still describe the 2026 meeting in Providence and must not be reused as if their dates or access rules apply to Chicago.

The proposed preparation route is an uncertainty notebook for a spectroscopy or sensing result. Begin with the quantity being estimated and the measurement that produces the data. Then separate random variation from a systematic shift in the estimate. A narrow-looking signal is not automatically an accurate measurement, and a long averaging time does not necessarily remove a persistent bias. Readers can use a simple synthetic data example to practise this distinction before hearing about more complicated apparatus at the meeting.

Create three versions of the same imagined measurement: one with random scatter, one with a fixed offset and one with slow drift. Plot the estimate as more data are collected. The exercise should state that the data are illustrative and should not be presented as a DAMOP result. Its purpose is to make the questions concrete: which checks would reveal the offset, which reference would detect drift and what changes if the noise is correlated? A source describing the actual experiment should supply its own uncertainty model and validation procedure.

When reading a future abstract, identify whether it reports an apparatus improvement, a measurement method, a new physical result or an application demonstration. Those categories can overlap, but they should not be collapsed. An apparatus that improves stability may enable a better measurement later; the abstract should say whether that measurement has already been performed. A practical note-taking habit is to record the observed quantity, the control experiment and the largest stated limitation next to each talk title. This keeps a week of technically dense material connected to evidence.

Can I use the 2026 registration page to plan?

It can show the type of information that may eventually be needed, but its fees, dates and access rules are historical. Use the 2027 organizer page for current decisions.

What should I ask about a precision claim?

Ask which quantity was estimated, how the uncertainty was constructed, how systematic shifts were checked and whether the comparison uses the same operating conditions and averaging time.

Event preparationCLEO/Europe–EQEC 2027: write the experiment boundary before the abstractUse the open submission window to define exactly what the experiment measured.Context reviewed

CLEO/Europe–EQEC 2027 is scheduled for June 21–25 at the ICM in Munich. Its organizer deadline page states that online paper submission opened October 5, 2026 and gives January 2027 as the closing month, while explicitly leaving several exact dates to be confirmed. Registration is listed as opening closer to the conference. This guide preserves that partial precision: it does not invent a January day, an early-registration deadline or a price.

The preparation task is to draft an abstract around the boundary of an optical or quantum-electronics experiment. Begin with the physical system, the controlled input and the measured output. Then state what changed relative to a defined reference. A good abstract does not need every apparatus detail, but it should make the central comparison intelligible. Readers should be able to tell whether the work concerns a component, an integrated subsystem or a complete application, and whether the result is experimental, theoretical or simulated.

A useful revision exercise is to remove every comparative adjective and replace it with the quantity that would justify it. If a draft says faster, ask which interval was measured. If it says scalable, ask which resource grew and which limitation was tested. If it says robust, ask what disturbance was applied and what outcome remained acceptable. Some adjectives may return after the quantities are stated. The exercise helps make a research claim more precise; it is not a submission rule imposed by the conference.

The Munich setting also creates an event-identity issue. CLEO/Europe–EQEC, the broader congress environment and associated exhibitions can have different programmes and access conditions. A reader should not infer that a badge for one activity includes every neighbouring event. This record focuses on the named scientific conference and its published submission calendar.

Questions to take with you

Why retain only a closing month?

That is the precision supplied by the organizer’s current deadline page. Adding a guessed day would create a false actionable deadline.

What makes this different from the World of Quantum record?

Event preparationDPG Hannover 2027: plan the abstract and funding clocks separatelyCoordinate the research abstract with separate funding, programme and payment decisions.Context reviewed

The DPG SAMOP Spring Meeting runs February 28–March 5, 2027 at Leibniz University Hannover. Its current site gives an actionable submission deadline of December 1, 2026 at 23:59 CET. Registration began October 15, and early registration closes January 27, 2027, with a separate payment deadline. The scientific programme is planned for January 22. These are distinct clocks: submitting research, applying for support, receiving a programme decision and paying for attendance require separate entries in a planning record.

The research-preparation task is a compact explanation that can travel across atomic physics, quantum optics and quantum information audiences. Choose one result and state the physical system, the question and the measurement that answers it. Then identify which terminology belongs to the specific subfield and which concept can be explained more generally. A reader studying a trapped system, an optical interface or a quantum-information protocol may share a technical question even when the apparatus differs. That connection is more useful than a broad claim that all the fields are converging.

A practical abstract exercise is to write two versions of the same contribution. The specialist version can name the established method directly. The broader version should explain what the method makes observable and what limitation remains. Both versions must describe the same evidence and preserve its uncertainty. If the broader version quietly upgrades a preliminary observation into a complete capability, the revision has changed the claim rather than merely improved accessibility. This exercise is preparation guidance and does not replace the organizer’s submission rules or review process.

The funding calendar deserves particular care because eligibility differs by programme. The organizer lists December 15 for a specified European early-career travel-support route and January 27 for a young-member route connected to Germany. Readers must check the eligibility language before relying on either date. Registration categories also have specific definitions; the student category is not automatically available to every person in a research-training role. The linked sources provide the official terms and avoids assuming eligibility from a reader’s age, job title or institutional affiliation.

Why can an early ticket still become a regular fee?

The organizer separates registration and payment deadlines. Readers should verify when payment must be received, particularly if an institution pays on their behalf.

Is a PhD candidate automatically in the student fee category?

No. The organizer provides a specific definition and explicitly excludes PhD candidates from that category. Check the current registration terms for the appropriate category rather than inferring it from the word student.

Event preparationQCrypt 2027: prepare a security-definition notebook before ViennaUse the Vienna date as a prompt to learn the assumptions behind a security theorem.Context reviewed

The QCrypt conference site announces Vienna, Austria for August 23–27, 2027. It explicitly says that registration, venues and accommodation details will be supplied later. That is enough to create a future planning brief, but not enough to promise a particular building, admission route, fee or submission deadline. The 2026 technical call remains a different edition. This record keeps those gaps visible while giving readers a substantive preparation task that does not depend on the final timetable.

The task is a security-definition notebook. Choose a protocol claim and write down the participants, the allowed communication, the adversary’s capabilities and the property the protocol is supposed to achieve. A security statement is meaningful only relative to such a model. A result that changes one assumption can be important without settling the same question under all other assumptions. Readers should resist translating a proof into a universal product claim before understanding the setting in which the proof applies.

Use a small comparison table with two hypothetical definitions. In one, an adversary follows the prescribed steps but tries to learn extra information. In the other, the adversary can deviate from the protocol. Ask which parts of the argument would need to change. The purpose is to practise identifying assumptions, not to supply a formal proof or describe the future QCrypt programme. A second comparison can distinguish an asymptotic result from a finite-resource statement. Both can be useful, but their implications for an actual implementation differ.

When the accepted papers become available, select one paper whose central claim can be expressed in a sentence containing an explicit condition. Then trace the argument from the definition to the theorem and from the theorem to any proposed application. Record the exact role of the quantum resource: communication, stored information, computation or an adversary’s capability. This helps readers avoid confusing quantum cryptography with every product marketed as post-quantum security. The shared vocabulary contains distinct tasks that should be named accurately.

Questions to take with you

Is the 2026 call useful for a 2027 submission?

Only as historical context. The 2027 call may change dates, scope or rules, so it must be retrieved before an actionable submission plan is published.

What is the first question to ask about a proof?

Ask what security property is defined and what the adversary is allowed to do. Without that boundary, even a correct theorem can be misapplied to a different protocol or deployment.

Event preparationORNL Quantum Computing User Forum 2027: bring a reproducible workload dossierBring a scientific workload that another user can inspect, rerun and diagnose.Context reviewed

Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility announces the 2027 Quantum Computing User Forum for August 9–13 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The organizer states that it will be in person only and that registration will open in spring 2027. The agenda, abstracts and poster information are still forthcoming. This brief therefore prepares a workload dossier rather than promising a particular session or an already available place. Laboratory visitor procedures and event registration must be checked through the official sources when attendance planning becomes concrete.

A user forum is a useful setting for a problem that sits between an algorithm and a computing service. Choose a scientific workload and describe the full path from input data to the result a researcher needs. Identify which steps run classically, which might use a quantum device, and which depend on access to a simulator or a particular software environment. The dossier should make it possible for another researcher to understand the task before discussing any preferred vendor or architecture.

The central artifact is a reproducibility manifest. It should include input provenance, software versions, parameters, random seeds where relevant, backend identity, execution date and the analysis used to judge success. A second section should describe what happens when the requested backend is unavailable or a job fails. This matters because a workflow can be scientifically sound yet difficult to reproduce under shared-resource conditions. A clear fallback does not prove equivalence to hardware, but it lets the team distinguish a software-validation step from a physical experiment.

Prepare one difficult question for the user community. It might concern measurement cost, result metadata, queueing, repeated calibration changes or the portability of a compiled workload. The question should include a minimal example and a precise description of the observed or anticipated failure. Avoid arriving with only a broad request to make the application quantum. A bounded example is more likely to produce a useful technical discussion and can reveal whether the next step is algorithm research, software integration or a better classical baseline.

Event preparationIHP Information-theoretic Foundations 2027: account for every security error termPrepare to follow a security statement through its intermediate error terms.Context reviewed

The first workshop in IHP’s 2027 quantum-cryptography trimester is scheduled for October 11–15 in Paris, under the title Information-theoretic Foundations. The dedicated organizer page gives the IHP venue and leaves the programme summary and speakers under construction. This planning brief proposes a preparation exercise about security-error accounting; it does not claim to describe an announced talk. The broader trimester has a separate preregistration process subject to organizer validation.

Begin with an informal protocol in which several stages can fail. One stage estimates a property of the data, another reconciles information and another produces a final output. Ask how the failure statements from these stages are combined into a final claim. A small error probability attached to one stage does not automatically describe the whole protocol. The reader’s task is to draw the dependency between assumptions, intermediate guarantees and the final security statement, while keeping the mathematical setting explicit.

An illustrative notebook can use three symbolic error terms and show how changing one term affects a simple conservative total bound. The symbols are enough; there is no need to invent experimental key rates or device parameters. The exercise teaches an important reading habit: preserve the denominator, conditioning event and meaning of each probability. If a stage aborts, ask whether the guarantee is unconditional or applies only when the protocol returns an output. A later research paper may use a much more sophisticated treatment, but the habit of checking the statement remains useful.

A second preparation task is to distinguish an asymptotic argument from a finite-data result. A theorem that becomes favourable with sufficiently large resources can guide research while leaving an actual experiment with a difficult budget. Readers should look for the terms that become important at finite sample size and for the assumptions that connect the model to the physical device. This is not an evaluation of any unpublished workshop submission. It is a way to prepare questions that can be answered precisely when the scientific programme appears.

Questions to take with you

Can the preparation exercise state a security theorem?

It can illustrate how assumptions and error terms are tracked, but a formal theorem needs its exact definitions and proof. The notebook should not be presented as a security certification for a device or product.

Does preregistration mean admission?

No. The organizer explicitly says preregistration is subject to validation. A submitted form and confirmed participation are different statuses.

Dates describe the organizer’s announced event. Check current admission, price and access conditions before registering or making travel arrangements.

Event preparationIHP Complexity-theoretic Foundations 2027: write down what the oracle hidesPrepare to distinguish a query advantage from the cost of supplying a real input.Context reviewed

IHP’s dedicated page schedules the Complexity-theoretic Foundations workshop for November 15–19, 2027 in Paris. Its scientific summary and speaker list are still under construction. The useful preparation route is therefore methodological: learn to identify the computational model behind a quantum claim before trying to connect it to an implementation. This brief is a dated event-planning module and an original study exercise, not a forecast of the workshop’s talks or a substitute for its eventual programme.

Start with a problem statement and ask how the input is supplied. Is it an explicit string, a sample source, a quantum state or access to an oracle? Then ask what operations are counted. Two algorithms can solve related mathematical tasks while receiving different forms of input or different permitted queries. A complexity comparison is meaningful inside that model. It should not be converted automatically into a claim about a laptop, a cloud service or a physical quantum device without accounting for the work hidden by the abstraction.

The preparation notebook should contain one toy example with two input conventions. In the first, the data are already available through the assumed interface. In the second, the interface must be constructed from an ordinary data file. Record the additional preparation and access costs symbolically. The goal is not to disprove an oracle result; abstractions are powerful tools for discovering what a resource can do. The goal is to recognise which part of the result survives when the application changes the input model.

A related question concerns promises and distributions. A theorem may apply to inputs with a particular structure or to an average over a specified distribution. The reader should preserve that condition when summarising the result. A worst-case statement, an average-case statement and an experiment on selected instances answer different questions. A precise note can make those distinctions in a few lines by writing the allowed input family, success criterion and cost measure together. This is especially useful when a conference presentation compresses a long proof into a short explanation.

Questions to take with you

Does an oracle assumption make a result unimportant?

No. It isolates a resource and can reveal a real computational separation. The application question is whether the required oracle or input interface can be supplied at an acceptable cost.

What should a short theorem summary preserve?

The input family or promise, the success condition, the allowed operations and the resource being counted. Removing one of those can turn a correct statement into an unsupported broader claim.

Remote attendance is not asserted: the supplied remote-access citation resolved to an IBM learning resource rather than the organizer.

Event preparationIHP Computational and Interactive Primitives 2027: track the protocol transcriptFollow messages, aborts and guarantees through an interactive cryptographic task.Context reviewed

The third workshop in IHP’s 2027 quantum-cryptography programme is scheduled for November 29–December 3 in Paris and is titled Computational and Interactive Primitives. Its dedicated page supplies dates and location while leaving speakers and the summary to be announced. This brief proposes a transcript-based preparation route: follow which participant sends which message, what information is available at each stage and what security property the interaction is intended to establish. No future talk or accepted result is invented.

A protocol is more than a final formula. Its order of messages can determine what a participant knows before making a choice. A useful learning exercise begins with an informal two-party task and writes a table of rounds, messages, local information and acceptance conditions. Keep classical and quantum messages distinct when the model requires it. The table should also say what happens if a party aborts or sends an invalid message. Those branches are part of the task’s definition, not an optional implementation detail added after the proof.

Next, identify the desired properties separately. A protocol may aim to hide information, bind a participant to an earlier choice, verify a computation or enable another defined task. Success at one property does not automatically establish all the others. A reader can practise by writing a plain-language claim for each property and asking what an adversary would need to do to violate it. This is a conceptual exercise, not instructions for attacking a deployed service and not a substitute for the formal definitions in a research paper.

The most informative question for a future talk may concern composition. If the primitive is used inside a larger workflow, which assumptions and guarantees carry across the boundary? The answer can depend on the model, the allowed environment and the way multiple executions interact. Notes should preserve those conditions rather than calling a primitive universally secure. A protocol can represent important theoretical progress while remaining far from a supported product; a prototype can demonstrate an interaction while leaving the proof’s physical assumptions untested.

Questions to take with you

Why draw the messages before reading the proof?

It makes the information flow and timing of choices explicit. That helps the reader understand what the formal security definition is protecting and where assumptions enter the interaction.

Does a secure primitive automatically make a secure application?

No. The application must satisfy the primitive’s assumptions and preserve the relevant guarantees when it is composed with other components. The exact composition statement belongs with the source.
