Peter Shor recounts how he discovered the factoring algorithm that helped put quantum computing on the map. In this Qiskit presentation, his recollections connect conversations and earlier mathematical ideas with the search for problems a quantum computer could solve efficiently. The first-person account gives the collection a historical perspective beyond hardware announcements. It also complements explanations of error correction: an algorithm’s implications and the resources needed to run it at consequential scale are separate questions. This is an archival 2021 talk, not evidence that today’s machines can break deployed cryptography at will.
