IBM Tests Built-In Checks in a 70-Logical-Qubit Sampling Experiment

IBM's 70- sampling experiment tackles a problem that grows with quantum computers: how to check a computation when reproducing it classically is expensive. The company presents the preprint research as one of three efforts toward verifiable quantum advantage, with error checks built into the sampling circuit.
The reported doped-Clifford experiment embeds a spacetime error-detection code. IBM reports roughly a tenfold reduction in effective gate error after postselection, which discards some runs.
That improvement does not establish general quantum advantage, useful fault-tolerant computing or economic advantage. Assessing the result will require independent scrutiny of the sampling assumptions, the proportion of shots retained and the full resources needed for a comparison.
