GÉANT confirms a twin-field QKD experiment over 253.9 km of German telecom fiber at 110 secret-key bits per second. Separately, Toshiba released a PQC bridge for connecting geographically separated QKD networks in March 2026.
What remains unresolved
The 254 km result is a field experiment, and key generation rate is not encrypted-data throughput. The global bridge uses PQC; it does not demonstrate an intercontinental optical QKD link. QKD also needs authentication and secure implementation.
