A practical way to show your skills
Create a fictional maintenance and incident log with asset IDs, symptoms, escalation owners and verification records. Show how an issue is handed over. Do not turn the exercise into operating instructions for hazardous equipment.
Show how you documented a system, diagnosed a recurring fault or improved maintenance reliability. A redacted failure-mode review, maintenance record or commissioning checklist can be useful when it demonstrates what you personally changed and how the result was checked.
Questions to ask the team
- Is the role responsible for design, operations or both?
- What training and safety supervision are provided?
- How are downtime and recurring faults investigated?
A useful first-month focus: Complete site training, understand equipment ownership and learn the escalation and documentation process before taking independent responsibility.
Keep the limits in view
An online exercise does not qualify someone to operate specialist equipment. Confirm physical attendance, supervision and on-call expectations with the employer.
