TECHNOLOGY & ACCESS

What it does. Where it fits.

Neutral atoms: analog Aquila and gate-model Gemini

Who should look closer

Aquila suits hands-on analog simulation and optimization research; Gemini suits selected collaborators investigating logical operations and error correction.

QubitWire’s editorial assessment of practical fit.

Cloud access; digital pilots

Aquila runs on Amazon Braket or through premium access. Gemini requires a technical discussion or pilot collaboration; its capabilities should not be assumed available through Aquila.

DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE

What has been demonstrated

The July 2025 Nature study demonstrated improved logical magic-state fidelity using distance-3 and distance-5 color codes on a Gemini-class system. This is a specific logical-operation milestone.

What remains unresolved

Aquila cloud access does not provide Gemini’s gate-model or logical-qubit capabilities. Logical magic-state distillation is a component of fault tolerance, not a completed general-purpose fault-tolerant computer.

The next question to watch

Can repeated logical operations and error-correction cycles scale into longer useful computations, and become available through clearly documented access programs?

A research question, not a promised milestone.
