What the work involves

A role may emphasize theory, decoder implementation, simulation or experimental integration. Identify the error model, runtime objectives and team interfaces rather than assuming one title requires all these specialties.

Experience you can build on

Probability, coding theory, graph algorithms, high-performance software and experimental analysis may offer relevant foundations. Explain which part of the workflow you understand. Do not imply that experience with a classical error-correcting code automatically covers the full quantum setting.

Relevant skills: Probability · Graph algorithms · Simulation · Performance engineering · Experimental analysis

A practical way to show your skills

Create a small simulation benchmark with synthetic errors and two simple decision rules. Record model assumptions, inputs, seeds and runtime measurements. Explain how changing the model could change the conclusion.

Useful evidence includes a reproducible simulator, a benchmark with controlled assumptions or an implementation that reports its limitations. Preserve model versions and seeds. A result without enough context to reproduce it should not become a headline portfolio claim.

Questions to ask the team

  • Is the role focused on theory, implementation or experimental integration?
  • Which assumptions drive the evaluation?
  • How are accuracy and runtime tradeoffs assessed?

A useful first-month focus: Reproduce an agreed benchmark, learn the data format and trace how model assumptions enter the reported metrics.

Keep the limits in view

Compare results only when their model and benchmark conditions are compatible. A small simulation does not demonstrate a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
